At Home with Kids

We know through this pandemic that there are many shifts in your families routine and daily schedule. It can be overwhelming and frustrating for both the parents and kids when everything seems out of sorts, so we have come up with a few activities to do with your kids at home, with special thanks to our friend Jasmin from @lemons.for.days for her help!

Camp Corona

Jasmin has created what she calls ‘Camp Corona’, which consists of daily themed activities. She has her kids choose a popsicle stick out of a jar each evening, and then the next day she plans their day around that theme. You can do as little or as much as you want with that theme, but it is such a great way for the kids to be involved and have something to look forward to. Little Chefs

During this time, your kids will be watching you and following your example, so it’s important to let your kids help you around the house. Baking and cooking are tasks you carry out everyday that you can easily let your kids assist with. Dinner may take a little longer, or baking muffins might get a little messy but these are the memories your kids will remember during this time. You can even get creative and open a pretend restaurant in your kitchen, letting your kids draw and choose the menu, and have your family team up to make a five-star meal any restaurant would want to serve.

Scavenger Hunt

It’s beginning to look a lot like spring, so why not bundle up and head outside for an outdoor scavenger hunt? This is perfect to get your kids outside, and encourage using their mind to think through solving a problem. You can build a list of common things they can see around your neighbourhood, such as types of animals, vehicles or plants. You can even adapt this game for car rides if you need to run errands. This is a great way to get out of your house, change the scenery around you, and enjoy some time with your kids. Click the links below for our two favourite printables.

Have fun!

Ultimately, your kids just need a sense of calm and normalcy right now with so much change happening all around them. However you choose to spend time with your loved ones, just remember to have fun and let the little things go. Don’t get caught up in comparing yourself and your family to others on the internet, and remember to be grateful for the time together. It not only helps them, but will help you while you juggle this time at home all together.
